Eunpyong EPPF
Eunpyeong is the historic northwest transportation gateway to Seoul. Centrally located in the district, this 360 meter long linear site, flanked by mountains on the east and the west and with a bisecting north-south stream, is to become the new town center. It capitalizes on the adjacent Eunpyeong Station, along the northwest subway line, to draw regional visitors who are en route to Seoul.
This mixed-use project incorporates residential, hotel, and office units, a shopping mall, complete with department stores and a cinema proximate to a major transit center. The complexity of program, with its overall size, transit center, subway connection and commuter parking garage provided distinct design challenges. The site centered within four surrounding streets, all with distinctive characters that require careful urban responses. The north street is commercial in character while the west street is wider and resembles a highway. The south side is adjacent to a residential area with the east side designed to be pedestrian friendly, accommodating traffic from the subway line and transit center. Located in the heart of the new town development, Eunpyeong is designed to function as a town center.
