Danang City Hall
The new City Administration Center for Danang will create both a public place and a new institution through the use of innovative and active spaces for the transaction of municipal business and the accommodation of municipal agencies and staff. Housed in a transparent and accessible space, these facilities signal the re-ascendancy of the city’s people and its institutions.
The new city administration center seeks to add gravity to the institutions of Danang by suggesting a monumental icon to which all citizens have access to government and it’s institutions. The metaphor of the lotus represents the dynamic form of the new city administration center which in turn symbolizes Danang’s entry into the 21st century. This formal idea is further accentuated by it’s sustainable design. Like the plant on which it is based, the Danang City Hall will be a breathing, living organism to those who will work in and visit the building.
As an Icon, the tower further represents the dynamism of the people of Danang, and their desire for a technological future that works in conjunction with, instead of dominance over, nature.
The mix of green, water and pedestrian space tie the Danang City Hall pavilions together, allowing movement effortlessly between interior and exterior spaces. The low-rise masses of the Multi-purpose, Restaurant and Tower atrium spaces are tied together by sun shading structures creating semi outdoor circulation space. Open to all, these areas will accommodate public pedestrian passes through the ground level and will connect all elements of the complex under a contextual response to the city of Danang and the natural environment it inhabits.
