Canyon Ranch Living – Chicago is a 67 story mixed-use tower developed by Related Midwest in partnership with the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago and Canyon Ranch. The building program includes offices, parking, residential and hotel condominiums, and extensive spa, fitness, and wellness facilities. It is designed to be unique within the luxury residential market by integrating healthy practices into the residents’ everyday lives.
The building’s form responds to its program, physical context, and identity within the luxury residential market. The light and contemporary glass tower is designed to recede in mass from both its high rise neighbors and the more intimately scaled, historic St. James Episcopal Cathedral on the adjoining site. The elliptical form minimizes the building’s mass, maximizes potential diagonal views and facilitates radial plans that afford each condominium unit unique cityscape views. Situating the tower at the eastern edge of the property creates a public courtyard between the Cathedral and the tower, which serves as an entry to the Cathedral and the Diocesan offices in the tower. Lifting the building mass off the site and minimizing the ground floor area adds to the open space provided at the ground level. The retail and restaurant uses at the first two floors open the building for public as well as private use.
